BBD is where intuition meets function & visual expression.
As a decorator who leans deeply into personal energies, vintage finds, curated layers & a variety of design styles, Babe creates livable, one-of-a-kind spaces, designed to uplift and speak for their inhabitants.
BABE: Decorating is in my bones. From early on, I've been designing spaces through fabrics & furnishings, artwork & mementos. Creating rooms to conjure joy & connection has always been my thing. Clubhouses, dollhouses, basement corners, you name it… anyone who gave me the opportunity would get a special space decorated just for them.
I grew up walking the halls of the Merchandise Mart with my decorator mother, excited to carry her sample bags, exploring the showrooms, taking in the endless possibilities of design. I'd sit in on her client meetings (when allowed), freely giving my input to anyone who’d have it. It was the 80s. Everything was maxed out and I loved it.
Beyond my decorating DNA, I entered the design world professionally as an assistant to two renowned interior designers, in Chicago & Los Angeles. And then made the move from interiors to television, where I spent my early days as a set dresser & prop stylist for TV and magazines. From there, I moved on to be a designer & producer of fashion & home design shows for over a decade (HGTV, A&E, TLC, FOX, Lifetime, DIY, etc). I lovingly call it “my circus era."
Personally, I am a maximalist at heart. A collector with no end in sight. There are very few design styles I’m not drawn to. What I don’t love is shoddy, disposable, and/or the ordinary. Happily, my clients get it. A wonderful group, ranging from SoHo lofters - who favor high art & modern restraint to Bel Air bungalow dwellers - who lean 1970's California cool… Mid Century-loving surfers in La Jolla to a serenity-seeking family in the Hamptons. Don’t even get me started on the Valley couple who loves masculine gold-leafing & larger-than-life everything. Decorating spaces to celebrate the unique people who stay in them is a living dream for me.
Missing the pace & the permanence of residential design, it has been my honor to have spent the last decade+ decorating everything from grand family homes to cozy apartments, high-demand vacation rentals to industrial lofts... in locations everywhere from La Jolla to Los Feliz, SoHo to San Francisco, Southampton, NY to Southwest Michigan.
What can I say. It’s all about the journey, right?
